$\cos(\theta)=\frac xr$

To memorize $\tan(\theta)$, simply memorize the fact that $\tan(\theta)=\frac{\sin(\theta)}{\cos(\theta)}=\frac{\frac yr}{\frac xr}=\frac yx$.
